There was a time when only the tetraploid and hybrid ryegrasses used for silage production were high in sugars.
THIS WILL NO LONGER BE THE CASE
I have seen stats on new diploid varieties for imminent release into the seed trade that are matching the top values of the high sugar tetraploids and hybrids.
These new, high sugar diploids are primarily grazing grasses, so be very careful when grazing new horse pasture leys or recently overseeded areas.
Make sure any purchased seed mixtures contain suitable species AND varieties.
I would like to know what people think about this.
