This light land mixture offers more diversity to the diet of grazing stock either as a permanent pasture or within a grazing rotation. Most suitable for sheep and/or alpaca grazing on brashy, sandy, free draining and/or low fertility soils. By establishing a deep rooting herbage seeds mixture containing grasses, clover and forage herbs within these areas, a pasture can provide a wide range of mineral and nutrient rich fodder other than ryegrass alone, Shallower rooted pastures can often falter during a large part of the grazing season, especially during prolonged periods of dry weather.

This long term diverse grazing pasture produces very reliable sward for extended early, mid and late season grazing, especially on the aforementioned light or sandy soils.

Some critical trace elements may be lifted to the surface via deeper root systems into the stem and leaf matter of the plants which are often readily consumed by foraging stock. Diverse Herbage can therefore promote the well being of all grazing animals from the quality, palatability and reliability of the herbage it provides.

An older, traditional style of grass production for quality grazing or hay making with reduced reliance on ryegrass and fertiliser. The additional benefits of white clover, well known to produce a higher protein content within a sward, will also fix atmospheric nitrogen into the soil and reduce the requirement for heavy fertiliser applications thus significantly reducing input costs, particularly on poor quality soils.

An established pasture which contains species other than ryegrass alone not only performs better in drier seasons but will recover more quickly from extremes of UK weather. The sward will also provide a greater range of forage growth phases so provide reliable early, mid and late season grazing.

The species included in this mixture have varied rooting patterns which exploit different soil depths and lift moisture and important trace minerals from beyond the root range of most other ryegrass only seed mixtures.

With intensive livestock farming it can often be advantageous to establish a Long Term Ley for multi purpose use which responds well to artificial fertiliser, slurry or farmyard manure applications. This versatile, perennial ryegrass based mixture provides quality grass for both cutting or grazing depending on demand.

Despite total yields being lower than specific short and mid term leys, the combination of (T) tetraploid ryegrass, diploid ryegrass and timothy produce excellent quality forage, improved ground cover and a more persistent grass sward for long term cutting or grazing than the short lived and more open Italian and hybrid ryegrass based mixtures.

The modern combination of hybrid ryegrass, perennial ryegrass and timothy makes a highly productive, medium term ley suitable for both cutting and/or grazing. The hybrid grasses maximise yield for conservation be it silage, haylage or hay whilst the perennial ryegrass and timothy help fill the base of the sward for more efficient grazing.

Hybrid ryegrass has a high soluble carbohydrate content which aids the conservation process and also ensures both silage and grazing from this ley remains extremely palatable from early to late season growth.

With good management the current varieties in this mixture should easily continue beyond the stated 3 years

Permanent grassland must be dominated by persistent and durable forage species. It is these leading characteristics which combine to create reliable grass, a dense sward and productive grazing thus minimising the risk of weed grasses (with little or no feed value) re-establishing into the pasture.

The grasses and clovers in our Permanent Grassland blend are chosen for their tolerance of defoliation, cold weather and ability to yield well on most soil types throughout the growing season. Timothy is included for both its winter hardiness and high palatability whilst the clover increases the overall protein content and to some degree, the drought tolerance of the grazing sward.

The listed varieties in this mixture together produce reliable forage for permanent grassland grazing by milk and meat stock or for cutting as a conservation crop.

One hundred percent Italian ryegrass seeds produce an upright, very high yielding 2 Year Silage Ley. This mixture is very quick to establish from seed, germinates in cooler temperatures than both hybrid and perennial ryegrass and can provide early spring grazing (from an autumn sowing) if required before being shut off for silage, hay or haylage production later in the growing season.

A 100% Italian ryegrass blend also responds extremely well to agricultural fertiliser applications. This together with exceptional mid to late season re-growth gives Italian Ryegrass 2 Year Silage Ley the potential to produce three high yielding cuts in an average rainfall year.

Autumn sowings produce the highest yield in year one with production falling a little in year two whereas spring sowings produce the highest yield in the second year.

Italian Ryegrass seeds are often used to produce a relatively dust free, hard horse hay. If haylage is the priority then a small quality of hybrid ryegrass can be included in the mixture to help the fermentation process and/or lift the protein content of the final product.

The best grass seed mixture for emergency forage production. Westerwolds ryegrass seed and Italian ryegrass seed are extremely quick to establish and can produce very high yields in only 10-12 weeks from sowing. Ideal where silage or grazing forage may be short following severe crop losses due to hard winter kill, flooding, drought or summer burn up on light land.

Late season sowings of this particular mixture as an agricultural catch crop (particularly after maize) can produce early grazing in the following spring or three high yield silage cuts (for that year only). Westerwolds and Italian ryegrass compliment each other perfectly as a one year cutting ley as both grasses respond extremely well to high nitrogen applications.

Westerwolds ryegrass is the highest yielding agricultural grass species and although Italian ryegrass produces a slightly lower yield it is a good buffer against hard winter kill from autumn sowings.
