Horse Pasture Without Ryegrass Provides:

This robust Equine grazing seeds mixture still provides a diverse range of grass species yet completely removes the elevated sugar/protein content of modern, improved, rich (and even tetrapolid) ryegrass varieties. We have often seen these sugary grasses (bred for silage production) included in cheaper mixtures and yet they are clearly associated with easy weight gain and/or the increased risk of equine laminitis.
Horse Pasture Without Ryegrass seed is ideal for pony paddocks, lower stock levels in pastures (where grass yield is not the priority) or the strip grazing of horses and ponies on restricted intake management. Despite not having the usual ryegrass content the included grass species still produce a durable, persistent and hardwearing sward suitable for establishment on most soil types however, this product is particularly suited to producing a reliable sward on light or free draining ground.
SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
- The area/s to be sown should be cultivated to produce a firm, weed free seedbed clear of large stones, roots and any other loose debris.
- Harrow or rake over the surface to create a thin layer of fine, loose soil (tilth) approximately 10- 25mm (1/2” – 1”) deep.
- Evenly machine broadcast the horse pasture seeds at 14.00 kg per acre (35.00 kg per hectare 3.5 grams per square metre).
Please allow double the seeding rate if sowing by hand. - After sowing, gently work the applied seeds into the loose tilth a little with a light harrow or firm rake.
- Finally, use a light weight (for clay ground) to medium weight (free draining ground) flat roller to squeeze the seeds and tilth down into the prepared seedbed.
- This method ensures the horse pasture seeds are evenly spread, set at different depths and in good contact with the soil. All of the above helps to anchor the seeds in to position (so as not to float away during heavy or persistent rainfall) and to maintain persistent soil to seed moisture transfer for more even germination.Grass seeds may also be surface sown however, germination may be uneven and significantly slower particularly during periods of prolonged sunny, dry or windy weather even with regular irrigation
