The best grass seed mixture for emergency forage production. Westerwolds ryegrass seed and Italian ryegrass seed are extremely quick to establish and can produce very high yields in only 10-12 weeks from sowing. Ideal where silage or grazing forage may be short following severe crop losses due to hard winter kill, flooding, drought or summer burn up on light land.
Late season sowings of this particular mixture as an agricultural catch crop (particularly after maize) can produce early grazing in the following spring or three high yield silage cuts (for that year only). Westerwolds and Italian ryegrass compliment each other perfectly as a one year cutting ley as both grasses respond extremely well to high nitrogen applications.
Westerwolds ryegrass is the highest yielding agricultural grass species and although Italian ryegrass produces a slightly lower yield it is a good buffer against hard winter kill from autumn sowings.
