Low maintenance lawn seed without ryegrass mixtures can still produce a good quality, closely knitted turf on light loam to heavy clay soils. Our Low Maintenance Lawn Seed blend makes the best use of the less upright growth (compared to ryegrass) of fescue species so even when the resulting turf has fully matured, general leaf production is greatly reduced.
It is worth noting that a lawn seed mixture without ryegrass can take a little longer to form the required ground cover but once fully established demands a far less frequent mowing regime than a ryegrass based mixture, particularly during the spring and autumn peaks of the growing season.
A low nitrogen fertiliser application in early spring or late autumn will help keep the grass in good health and colour along with a scarification to prevent thatching.
Maintain a leaf length of 20 to 50mm to keep the grass looking at its best. Avoid cutting very short during mid summer or during extended spells of dry weather.
