SOIL ENHANCING GREEN MANURE

This historically well documented blend of Italian Ryegrass, Red Clover and deep rooting Cocksfoot is the ultimate 1 to 3 year Green Manure seeds mixture for soil improvement on all types of ground. An absolute must on free draining, sandy or very impoverished soils as the introduction of organic plant matter helps retain vital soil moisture and essential plant nutrients to lift the growth rate and yield of following crops.
On heavy clay or compacted ground grow Soil Enhancing Green Manure for two years to significantly improve aeration and surface drainage.

Cocksfoot is the only grass species to produce longer and longer roots through the growing season year on year. Deep penetrating, fibrous roots are ideal for introducing organic matter way down into the subsoil structure creating a natural pathway for moisture and air.
Red clover also develops a deep tap root and hosts nitrogen producing bacteria in small nodules attached to its own root. The bacteria repays the red clover’s hospitality by supplying some of the free nitrogen back to the plant thus improving its own hosts growth. As the leaf matter and/or root nodules break down the nitrogen is released into the soil for a massive fertility boost to following crops.

Soil Enhancing Green Manure Seeds mixture will require at least 10 months plus growth to be an effective conditioner (for noticable soil improvement) and will remain productive for up to 3 years. During this time the plants may be regularly cut and mulched on the surface or cut and removed to a compost heap as high nitrogen green leaf matter.

Evenly sow on to a fine, well prepared seedbed. Lightly rake over (whilst being very careful not to bury the seeds more than 5- 10mm) and firm the ground afterwards to insure good seed/soil contact.
