Our drought resistant mixture is specifically formulated with known deep rooting forage species to provide reliable grazing on areas which can sometimes suffer from grass burn up during summer months or poor regrowth over extended periods of low rainfall.

Meadowgrass together with very deep rooting Cocksfoot and Tall Fescue give this horse pasture for dry soil mixture the edge when it comes to providing quality early and mid season grazing on light or free draining ground.

This blend may be used to establish a new grazing pasture or can be overseeded (ideally in early spring or autumn) into an existing, thin or sparse grass sward at 10.00 kg per acre.

Drought resistant horse pasture seed may also be used to create, overseed or repair grazing of Alpaca, Llama, Donkey or Pony paddocks on sandy, light, free draining or shallow soil.

Best suited for: Horse and grazing paddocks on light, free-draining soils where drought resistance, deep rooting species and reliable summer regrowth are required to maintain a consistent grazing season.

SOWING GUIDE

The area/s to be sown should be cultivated to produce a firm, weed free seedbed clear of large stones, roots and any other loose debris.
Harrow or rake over the surface to create a thin layer of fine, loose soil (tilth) approximately 10- 25mm (1/2” – 1”) deep.
Evenly machine broadcast the seeds at 14.00 kg per acre (35.00 kg per hectare 3.5 grams per square metre) or apply 20.00 kg per acre if sowing by hand.
After sowing, gently work the applied seeds into the loose tilth a little with a light harrow or firm rake.
Finally, use a light weight (for clay ground) to medium weight (free draining ground) flat roller to squeeze the seeds and tilth down into the prepared seedbed.
This method ensures the horse pasture seeds are evenly spread, set at different depths and in good contact with the soil. All of the above helps to anchor the seeds in to position (so as not to float away during heavy or persistent rainfall) and to maintain persistent soil to seed moisture transfer for more even germination.Grass seeds may also be surface sown however, germination may be uneven and significantly slower particularly during periods of prolonged sunny, dry or windy weather even with regular irrigation
