Amenity Ryegrass
Lolium perenne
Amenity perennial ryegrass has been specifically bred over many years to become the fine leaved, compact plant we know today.
It is very far removed from broad leaved, agricultural type ryegrass from which it was developed in the 1970s and is now an absolute must in all good quality, hard wearing seed mixtures.
Amenity Ryegrass is also the best base grass by far for winter and summer sports fields or in areas of high foot traffic as it quickly tillers back into worn or damaged areas.
It is an easy to establish grass. Growth can occur both early and late in the year providing the ground temperature is above 6c and adequate soil moisture is available.
As with all perennial ryegrass there is an active response to inputs so the speed of growth, colour and root density can easily be inflenced by various fertilisers and compounds including Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potash, Sulphate and other trace elements.
Germination times range from several weeks in cooler weather to just a few days in very warm, damp conditions.
Amenity Ryegrass blends well with all fescues and bentgrass to produce a reasonably fine leaved turf. It also responds well to NPK fertiliser applications
