Applying a Cutting Ley Overseeding mixture is an economical way to quickly boost yields or extend the life of a tired or burnt up sward following damage caused by drought, overgrazing, flooding or extremely cold weather. The overseeding or ‘introduction’ of these grasses will quickly reinstate a short term grass ley’s productivity and vigor.
Should forage be urgently required for conservation this mixture may also be used to temporarily boost a grazing pastures yield for a year or two without incurring the expense or downtime of destroying pasture and re establishing a specific short term ley.
Cutting Ley Overseeding can be applied whenever temperature and available soil moisture allows during spring. late summer or early autumn. Sow into a short, open sward for minimum competition from existing grass.
A fertiliser application may be made to significantly boost yield 3 to 4 weeks after germination. It is advisable not to fertilise too soon after sowing as this may encourage a sudden surge of growth from existing grasses which can potentially smother developing seedlings.
