Slender Creeping Red Fescue
Festuca rubra litoralis
A hardy, perennial amenity grass which does extremely well in a highly populated, well maintained turf.
With the ability to fill gaps or grow back into damaged/worn areas, Slender Creeping Red Fescue is a must for all good quality lawn seed mixtures and should always be included at a higher percentage if a turf is to be regularly mown at a low cutting height to produce a short, very presentable lawn.
Slender Creeping Red Fescue is well known for a resistance to salt and can do surprisingly well on low fertility, acidic and water logged) soils. It is relaitvely slow growing with less vigorous rhizomes and a more delicate leaf than it’s gaudy, cheaper cousin Strong Red Fescue (Festuca rubra rubra)
Festuca rubra litoralis establishes very well with other species such as Chewings Fescue and Bentgrass to form a very dense, low growing turf
Slender Creeping Red Fescue is very resistant to both frost and drought and will tolerate a certain amount of surface water during the winter months
