100% Bentgrass seed is ideal for creating a new golf green or for over-seeding/repairing an existing area. Agrostis is the best choice of grass species for greens as it is well adapted to very close mowing and provides consistent play on a well managed surface.
Adequate moisture must be supplied during establishment as Bentgrass is very shallow rooted and can suffer during periods of reduced rainfall, even in winter.
The best sowing times for a golf green are during the warmer months as this mixture does appear to establish better in slightly higher temperatures in a firm, damp seedbed.
Allow the seedlings to reach 2 inches in height before the first cut and then only remove a maximum 1/3 of the leaf length. Keep well watered (but not constantly wet) and slowly reduce the cutting height and cutting frequency over the following weeks. A good quality, slow release compound fertiliser not too high in nitrogen should be applied every six to eight weeks, particularly on sandy or free draining soils.
Use at half the recommended sowing rate for overseeding and always apply seed over the entire green area to maintain a more uniform texture and colour.
