Repair or Overseeding Lawn Seed With Ryegrass provides the fast growing amenity grasses that will rapidly knit a previously scarified, torn up or worn out grass area back together producing a hard wearing turf often better and stronger than before. For general repairs to hard working garden lawns or areas of damage in an established turf

This amenity seeds mixture can be used over an entire lawn, particularly after spring and autumn moss or thatch removal (ref: above picture) or as a general spring or autumn top up. Regular applications or ‘Overseeding’ with lawn seed can help minimise space for weed invasion and often encourages a more even, dense turf with good all year round colour.

Overseeding a lawn is one of those unfortunate jobs which requires making a turf look worse before it looks better as the surface requires vigorously scratching over (scarifying) to expose some soil as a seedbed. This action must be implemented simply because small lawn seeds need to be in intimate contact with soil and moisture to successfully germinate and properly establish.

Once overseeding has been carried out it is very important to roll or tread the sown area firm again to consolidate the seedbed and further guarantee the applied seeds are in good contact with the soil.

Repairing or Overseeding Lawn Seed With Ryegrass will require more frequent cutting maintenance than a finer leaved, fescue based mixture.

        SOWING INSTRUCTIONS

        • Vigorously rake over or scarify the entire area to be seeded. This action should expose at least some soil required as a seedbed. If the surface cannot be exposed then a thin top dressing of 50% sand, 50% topsoil may be applied as a false seedbed.
        • Broadcast the seeds at the recommended rate over the entire area.
        • Gently rake over the area to ensure the seeds are mixed in with the topsoil a little then firm down with the back of the rake, by using a light garden roller or by lightly treading over. This not only puts the grass seed into good contact with soil moisture but also anchors the lawn seeds into position preventing them from floating away during heavy/persistent rainfall.
        • Lawn seed may also be surface sown however, germination may be uneven and significantly slower particularly during periods of prolonged sunny, dry or windy weather even with regular irrigation.
